Oh Catholic Ireland...where art thou?

Leo Varadkar lives the lifestyle and has a partner. He 'came out ' during the 'gay marriage' campaign and canvassed for the change to the constitution. This has been a huge factor in his anointing by the media. On the day of the vote a media commentator asked in shocked tones if the 65% grassroots who opposed him could be homophobic. Being gay was enough to get him elected according to their mindset. The TD's who voted him are convinced that this will help them to retain their seats as it will be the party of choice of the media. What I find difficult is that these TD's will turn up at Mass and go to communion and see nothing wrong with giving public scandal.

From a few snippets of news I heard or saw, he has a partner who is unlikely to attend public events because he's "a very private person". (I reckon that could change if FG wins the next general election). As the first Irish politician to "come out", Veradker applauds how Ireland has embraced diversity by voting for gay marriage, etc.

I'm sick and tired of hearing how tolerance equates to rejecting the values that civilised and sustained our forebears through centuries of oppression, and gave us the basis of a decent education system to help our nation become more than a collection of (I can't remember who coined the phrase) bellhops and chambermaids. That said, Veradker is unlikely to be any better or worse than the alternatives who like to be seen at all the funeral Masses and spend the rest of the time acting as though they are ashamed of their Catholic baptism. Statesmen (or women), especially of the faithful Catholic variety, are rather thin on the ground these days. Anyway, whomever is in government does the bidding of Brussels, Berlin or the multi-national Corporations. Best to leave them pursue their aim of aping Sweden or France or whichever atheist country they believe most exemplifies their Utopian vision or the vision of the foreign and domestic media hacks whose approbation they crave. They're just a symptom of our national inferiority complex, an illness that won't be cured in our lifetime.

    Wow
Wow the more things change the more they remain the same. The path of the Israelites is our path too this is what is happening in the Church! And the world. "They followed other gods and worshiped them".

Yes and with public approval and acceptance of sin we lay up a legacy of destruction for future generations until the 7th generation.

Taking the LORDS name in vain has always been part of Irish culture. The "Jesus, Mary & Joseph" exclamation is engrained since I can remember. Yes, the Celtic Tiger allowed us young Irish to believe we could join our European cousins in enjoying more worldly riches & throw off the beliefs of old. Money, consumption & pop culture replaced sound ideals based on self respect & morals hat our parents thought us.

Oh dear. I ignore what politicians do, and no longer watch RTE News or read newspapers, apart from a glance at the Independent headlines on the internet (they get no money off me). Ah well, ignorance was bliss while it lasted.

I don't think this is good politics. To ignore and insult party grassroots will lead to electoral losses, particularly if he pushes a blatantly homosexualist agenda. Beware of what you wish for. The upcoming Brexit and Euro crises, combined with the Islamic invasion, will present him with some extraordinary difficulties.
