From Mexico and this happened in Mexico,

This is one fine movie at netflix. I would have cancelled out on netflix but my friend got a membership and invited me in about 18 months ago for 5$ a month but with that out of the way, In Spanish but English subtitles.

This movie may have a vibe more than other recent "spiritual" movies. And maybe movies not so recent.

Our Lady of San Juan or "La Virgen de San Juan" (easy to understand that) is thought to heal some miraculously. There is no real apparition here but it is said this Lady of San Juan cures people.

The man above is a Spaniard, part of the movie is from New Spain, that is all the places in the Americas that were of Spain and that included Mexico. His daughter got a miraculous healing.

Fast forward to modern times, a man's daughter gets a miraculous healing.

Trailer, one sees the Franciscans early in this video...the movie is based on facts.

This San Juan place is in the same state as Guadalajara, the state of Jalisco.

San Juan de los Lagos (Spanish for "Saint John of the Lakes") is a city and municipality located in the northeast corner of the state of Jalisco, Mexico, in a region known as Los Altos. It is best known as the home of a small image of the Virgin Mary called Our Lady of San Juan de los Lagos or in Nahuatl Cihuapilli, which means “Great Lady.” Since the first major miracle ascribed to her in 1632, she has been venerated especially for cases involving mortal danger. The miracles ascribed to her have made the basilica in which she is found a major tourist attraction, which has shaped the city's history to this day. The economy of the city is still heavily dependent on the flow of pilgrims which has amounted to between seven and nine million people per year.

See that, "a small image", per the movie, this was a small handmade statue, I'm still studying it. An Indigenously made statue.

This seems to be how she is often portrayed:

Note, how the Infant of Prague and some of the Madonnas have those kinds of robes!

Should anyone have netflix, here is the link:
    Netflix

Here is a video in English that discusses this:

I see youtube has some other videos, in Spanish I saw. So, I will see what else I find later. First impression, outstanding movie, studying this topic more. I must say, I think I liked it more than the new Fatima movie or the Garabandal movie but... one needs to digest it, reflect on it.

Is this a documentary or a movie? I don't have Netflix, but my sister does, and I'd like to recommend it to her.

Looks like their website: Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle (olsjbasilica.org) They take prayer requests under the category "Vigil Lights". Prayer Requests (olsjbasilica.org)

All of that said, I enjoyed the films portrayal of the working class, maybe Middle class at that. Some very bad things in Mexico now. They have existed but they seem a lot worse now. The Cartels mainly, real gang wars.

A Church, a "quasi-parish" in Dallas too: Our Lady of San Juan De Los Lagos & St Theresa: Welcome! (olsanjuandallas.org)
