    Our Priest announced from the pulpit he is not making any comments until our Bishop makes a statement. No statement yet but he did have a big article in the last diocesan newspaper on how wonderful the synod was and HD had been invited to be a part of it. So not holding my breath.

    Nothing from our bishop. Just a link to the USCCB statement--basically nothing to see here. No change in doctrine. Move on.

    I believe that Benedict XVI did give a message to the world and it can be found here:

    Sigh, the words of these people are like a dagger through the heart. It is as if your father turned round and whacked you over the head with a baseball bat; like a dagger through the heart.

    Truly terrible and bizarre.

    But being positive, it lets us know just were we stand.

    But on a more positive note , it lets you know just where you stand. Like one of those old cowboy films were the bad guys wore black hats and the good guys, white hats.

    Silence from our Bishop too. I asked one of the priests what he thought about blessing of same-sex couples. First he said he was not in favour of it, but then he went on about gay marriage not being allowed (which was off the point). But then he dropped the clanger!; he said, "of course if they are in love, then I think blessing is ok." It's rampant! Incredible how many priests have swallowed this ideology - hook, line and sinker!

    Gavin Ashenden says that Pope Francis has no power whatsoever to actually change doctrine in relation to homosexuality, and that indeed he hasn't changed it. However, he has under the guise of mercy changed pastoral praxis, giving the appearance of changed Doctrine. He is allowing blessing of same-sex "couples", but not the union, not the relationship - a logical contradiction. With no definition of terms. First it was a footnote in Amoris Laetitia, now a Declaration. The genie is out of the bottle! "And now it begins" is right.

    That is a very good point. If we have had 260 odd popes and the current one opposes them in teaching then 260 to one are very unfavourable odds!

    We know our Faith of the Church rests on the tripartite structure of Scripture, Tradition and the Magisterium (like a 3 legged stool). It seems that all of the previous popes are collapsed into Tradition, making the odds look a little less ominous perhaps. The Magisterium is made up of the current Pontiff in communion with the College of Bishops.

    We know this practise of blessing "same sex couples" is contradicted by Tradition and the Deposit of the Faith. We know it is clearly contradicted by Scripture. Good luck with resting on that one-legged stool! But it seems we're now pirouetting around on that one-legged stool. However, it seems to me that the Magisterium really does have the power and authority to do this. I hope to post on this subject - the power and authority of the Magisterium.

    My conscience may be malfunctioning but it just told me that it would be A OK if I broke the nose of the first priest that tells me blessing Sodomite couples is fine.:):)

    My Guardian Angel is actually egging me one, he says if I meet a priest that is actually doing this I should set my dog on him and hit him with something heavy. This proves to me something I have long suspected, that my Guardian Angel is from Ireland. :D:D

    Seriously though I would rather see a Church burnt to the ground than used used to bless Sodomite couples.The same as Devil Worship; an abomination.

    Burnt to the sticks and a very Happy New Year.

    1 Maccabees

    Mattathias and His Sons

    2 In those days Mattathias son of John son of Simeon, a priest of the family of Joarib, moved from Jerusalem and settled in Modein. 2He had five sons, John surnamed Gaddi, 3Simon called Thassi, 4Judas called Maccabeus, 5Eleazar called Avaran, and Jonathan called Apphus. 6He saw the blasphemies being committed in Judah and Jerusalem, 7and said,

    "Alas! Why was I born to see this,

    the ruin of my people, the ruin of the holy city,

    and to live there when it was given over to the enemy,

    the sanctuary given over to aliens?

    8 Her temple has become like a person without honor;a

    9 her glorious vessels have been carried into exile.

    Her infants have been killed in her streets,

    her youths by the sword of the foe.

    10 What nation has not inherited her palacesb

    and has not seized her spoils?

    11 All her adornment has been taken away;

    no longer free, she has become a slave.

    12 And see, our holy place, our beauty,

    and our glory have been laid waste;

    the Gentiles have profaned them.

    13 Why should we live any longer?"

    14 Then Mattathias and his sons tore their clothes, put on sackcloth, and mourned greatly.

    It's the joyful, sorrowful and glorious mysteries twice per day.

    I count one mystery as a rosary hence 6.

    That's a good question. I think it was Fr. Thaddeus Doyle (God's Cottage channel) where I heard that but can't be sure. I would like to get to the bottom of this, so I did some investigation.

    You are certainly right in that are called to subject our intellect and will to God. I think this is called Obedience of Faith or Assent of Faith.

    ... the language of the Second Vatican Council captures the dogmatic expression of Romans 1:5 and 16:26: "Obedience of Faith must be given to God Who reveals an obedience by which man entrusts his whole self freely to God, offering with 'full submission of intellect and will to God Who reveals', and freely assenting to the truth revealed by Him" (Dei Verbum n. 5).
    (Catholic Encyclopedia edited by Fr. Peter Stravinakas)

    The same encyclopedia says that the Pope, "possesses by virtue of his office, ... supreme, full, immediate and universal ordinary jurisdiction power in the Church [and he can always freely exercise this power]." (Cannon 331), and that he is a "visible symbol of the unity of the Church."

    The 1983 Code of Cannon Law says the following:

    "Schism is the withdrawal of submission to the Supreme Pontiff or from communion with the members of the Church subject to him." (Can. 751)

    "While the assent of faith is not required, a religious submission of intellect and will is to be given to any doctrine which either the Supreme Pontiff or the College of Bishops, exercising their authentic magisterium, declare upon a matter of faith or morals, even though they do not intend to proclaim that doctrine by definitive act. Christ's faithful are therefore to ensure that they avoid whatever does not accord with that doctrine." (Can. 752)

    "Whether they teach individually, or in Episcopal Conferences, or gathered together in particular councils, Bishops in communion with the head and the members of the College, while not infallible in their teaching, are the authentic instructors and teachers of the faith for Christ's faithful entrusted to their care. The faithful are bound to adhere, with a religious submission of mind, to this authentic magisterium of their Bishops." (Can. 753)

    So, it seems Cannon Law distinguishes between Obedience of Faith or Assent of Faith given to God, while nevertheless specifying Religious Submission of intellect and will or Religious Submission of mind to the Magisterium by Christ's faithful - the members of the Church. And it also defines Schism as withdrawal of submission to the Supreme Pontiff.

    This emphasises the seriuousness of withdrawing submission of mind and will to the Pope and the Magisterium in matters of Doctrine. On this particular issue of Fiducia Supplicans which clearly impinges on morals, we may be ok ? in withdrawing submission given the number of Bishops who have objected. Is the FS declaration Doctrine? Or is there a get out clause by saying it is pastoral in nature? Anyway I put it out there for consideration.

    A question:

    How can anyone in their right mind think it is wrong to criticise a priest, Bishop, Pope, or Cardinal who claims it is right to commit the total abomination of blessing a Sodomite couple? or, worse does so?
    :eek::eek::rolleyes:
