Thanks all. They just took her to the OR. First they’re doing a Trans Esophageal Echocardiogram (TEE) to take a closer look at her valves then directly to cardiac surgery. Cardiac surgeon was going to come talk to me before surgery but her cardiogenic shock is getting worse rapidly and they’re putting her on the heart bypass machine now instead of during the heart surgery; the surgery is now urgent, not just emergency. So surgeon doesn’t have time to talk to me. This is bad. Thank you for your prayers.
They’re finishing up mom’s surgery now. She is doing well. Doctor will be out shortly. Thank you again for all the powerful prayers!
Prayers for your Mama and you, Brian. There is something very holy about a mother and son (or daughter).
Mom’s been running aa fever all day Monday, and they’re giving her IV Tylenol to keep it down. It could be after effects of the general anesthesia, inflammation following this massive surgery, or low grade infection, so they ordered blood cultures Monday night. Also her kidney numbers were inching up again so they started her on bedside dialysis which is more mild than regular dialysis to let her kidneys rest and heal, but that’s apparently common after such a major cardiac surgery. They just decreased sedative Monday evening so she would wake up enough to do a mini neurological test and asked her to wiggle her toes and squeeze her fingers, which she certainly did. However judging by how unstable her breathing and blood pressure gets when she’s waking up and how high the vent has to be when she sedated to maintain O2 sat levels in her blood, her nurse thinks she’ll be sedated and on respirator for another week. Honestly this whole atmosphere is surreal (to the point of overwhelming) to say the least... View attachment 7471 View attachment 7472
Thank God they know so much and can do so much. Yes, it is overwhelming because it is your Mother here. God love both of you. More prayers, then.
Mom has been on total life support all week but is making very slow but steady progress. She’s still on vent and dialysis. Mom’s doing better today, was breathing on her own through the vent tube 5 1/2 hours yesterday morning and 3 hours last evening, then 6 hours again this morning. She’s keeping up her pressures better today and they’ll probably pull the vent tomorrow. She’s been agitated/panicky trying to breath on her own with that vent so I’m glad she’s finally getting it out tomorrow. A lot more awake, alert and communicative today, as much as she can be with a vent tube anyways. My sister Roseann has been here since late Thursday but has to go home to Harrisburg now and was telling mom goodbye around lunch time, that she has to leave now to go back to work in the morning and mom got tears in her eyes and vigorously shook her head “No”. She stayed a couple more hours and just now said her goodbyes again, same reaction. But she has to go and mom needed pain Med so nurse gave her fentanyl and she dozed off. Thankfully. Please keep up the prayers. Thanks, Brian
Remembered again at Holy Mass today. God help your family through this, and may blessed Mother wrap her mantle around you all especially your mum. Holy Mary mother of God, pray for us sinners. Spread the effect of Grace of thy flame of love, over Brians mum and all of humanity now, And at the hour of our death. Amen. Heart of Jesus, we adore Thee, Heart of Mary, we implore thee. Heart of Joseph, pure and just. In these three hearts we place our trust. Amen.
