From All Ireland Rosary Rally page:

    "Did you know?

German monks invented the pretzel in the early Middle Ages as a Lenten food; the twisted shape was meant to resemble arms crossed in prayer."

Neither did I Agnes. To be honest, I thought they were a Jewish creation.
Years ago, part of the area of Dublin I grew up in was known as Little Jerusalem. There was a shop around there called the Pretzel Bakery, which is probably what gave me that idea.

My favourite are hot cross buns . They are always lovely all year. But I remember one time I made me own to an old recipe and they were gorgeous, far different than from the bakery.
