  2. Tragic: Vandals Destroy 25 Panes of Glass at World Famous St. Thomas Church in Leipzig, Germany Where Johann Sebastian Bach Is Buried

You’d think Germany would do a better job protecting this historic site from crazy people.

Vandals destroyed 25 panes of glass at the world famous St. Thomas Church in Leipzig, Germany on New Year’s Eve.

    Deutsche Welle reported:

Police are investigating after 25 panes of glass were smashed at a world-famous church in the eastern German city of Leipzig. Police are looking for a suspect, and the church pastor has her own suspicions.

Police launched an investigation after windows were smashed at St Thomas Church in Leipzig, the burial place of composer Johann Sebastian Bach, on New Year’s Eve.

Two stained-glass panels and more than 20 Art Nouveau panes were destroyed.

While it was unclear what the financial cost would be to the church, pastor Britta Taddiken said act of vandalism had caused “immense damage” because the panes were special productions.

During the attack, heavy stones were thrown into the building. “If there had been people inside, it would have been very dangerous,” said Taddiken.

Police secured loose stones in the vicinity immediately afterwards, but no arrests were made near the scene.

  3. 200 Members Of Congress Are Urging The Supreme Court To Reconsider Roe
    • A coalition of 207 lawmakers from both houses of Congress filed a legal brief pressing the Supreme Court to reconsider Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 decision creating abortion rights.
    • The brief argues abortion case law is “radically unsettled” and should be fundamentally reconsidered.
    • The filing was submitted in a case the justices will hear in March, involving a challenge to Louisiana rules that require abortion providers have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital.
More than 200 members of Congress urged the Supreme Court to reconsider Roe v. Wade on Thursday, ahead of a March case concerning the constitutionality of a Louisiana regulation on abortion providers.

The lawmakers, who include 39 senators and 168 members of the House of Representatives, filed a legal brief arguing abortion case law is haphazard and inconsistent, warranting reconsideration of Roe.

Forty-six years after Roe was decided, it remains a radically unsettled precedent: two of the seven Justices who originally joined the majority subsequently repudiated it in whole or in part, and virtually every abortion decision since has been closely divided,” the brief reads.

Americans United for Life (AUL) prepared Thursday’s filing. The Senate leaders of the coalition are Sens. John Kennedy of Louisiana and Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee. The House leaders are House Minority Whip Steve Scalise and Rep. Michael Johnson, both of Louisiana.

Lawmakers say abortion decisions are confusing, subject to constant change

The Supreme Court’s 1992 Casey decision exemplifies the permanent flux of abortion jurisprudence, the brief argues. Casey involved a Pennsylvania law requiring doctors to counsel patients about abortion 24 hours before the procedure and obtain parental consent if the patient is a minor, among other things. The high court upheld those requirements. In so doing, it overturned two decisions from the 1980s that blocked comparable regulations.

A similar sequence preceded the 2007 Gonzalez v. Carhart decision, the lawmakers note. In Gonzalez, the high court upheld the federal Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act. That law banned an abortion method called intact dilation and extraction. Just seven years earlier, however, the justices struck down a Nebraska law much like the federal PBA ban.

“These incessant retrenchments show that Roe has been substantially undermined by subsequent authority, a principal factor the Court considers when deciding whether to overrule precedent,” the brief reads. “Casey clearly did not settle the abortion issue, and it is time for the Court to take it up again.”

Elsewhere the lawmakers wrote that abortion case law is “characterized by Delphic confusion and protean change.”

At issue in the Louisiana dispute is a law called Act 620, which requires that abortion providers have admitting privileges at a local hospital. Lawyers for the state told the justices in legal briefs that the law “improves abortion safety by means of doctor credentialing,” since the admitting privileges application process ensures a high level of physician competency. The requirement is necessary because of Louisiana’s “long, disturbing history of serious health and safety problems,” the state’s brief argues.

A coalition of providers challenging Act 620 say admitting privileges have little bearing on professional fitness. Privileges are sometimes conditioned on factors having nothing to do with ability, like admitting a certain number of patients each year. As such, the providers believe the law’s true purpose is to close abortion clinics by imposing needless requirements with which physicians can’t realistically comply.

A federal trial judge agreed, finding two of Louisiana’s three abortion clinics would close if Act 620 were enforced. The judge said the increased wait times and travel distances which would follow create an “undue burden” on abortion access.

The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reversed and upheld the law, so the plaintiff physicians appealed to the Supreme Court. The justices said the law could not take effect while litigation continued in February 2019. Arguments in the case are scheduled for March 4, with a decision to follow by June.

Approximately 10,000 abortions are performed in Louisiana each year.

The consolidated cases are No. 18-1323 June Medical Services LLC v. Gee and No. 18-1460 Gee v. June Medical Services LLC.

But not for the good Iranians who have been hoping for just such help in their cause to get out of the Ayatolla's tyranny over them....demonstrating in the streets and risking their lives, dying as martyrs. This is precision stuff....won't draw us into war....last thing this President wants. It was a defensive move as soon as intelligence showed real evidence of danger to American citizens there at the embassy.

Iranians Thank President Trump for Killing Soleimani Using Hashtag #TnxPOTUS4Soleimani

Iranians online are cheering the assassination of Iran Quds Force leader Major General Qassem Soleimani by a U.S. drone strike in Baghdad early Friday local time, with many thanking President Trump with a hashtag that reads: #TnxPOTUS4Soleimani. Many observers regarded Soleimani as the second most powerful person in Iran behind the Supreme Leader.

It was just Wednesday that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei trash talked President Trump, saying, “That guy has tweeted that we see Iran responsible for the events in Baghdad & we will respond to Iran. 1st: You can’t do anything. 2nd: If you were logical —which you’re not— you’d see that your crimes in Iraq, Afghanistan… have made nations hate you.”

Iranians responded Thursday night U.S. time thanking President Trump:

Yes, the greater and greater exposure of the evil systems of the world, beginning now in this time of Justice, and their masterminds will cause the evil one to grow evermore "restless" and desperate to hold on to territory gained. This is why the Flame of Love devotion/rosary is so important....its purpose is to blind Satan for the purpose that when this head of evil influence is blinded the followers/other fallen angels and their minions are w/o their spiritual director and lost and w/o knowing what's next! Expect then more and more erratic behavior of all types everywhere.

Yes, I agree it is hard sometimes. There are forces at work that wish to draw us in and cloud what is truly important. If we spend time worrying over these things it can detract from our daily duties to God and our families or miss opportunities for others because we are turned inward.
I have to ignore much of the news these days because of this and focus on the good. I think most of it can not be trusted anyway and quite honestly is BS. It is far more effective to focus what little energies I can muster on what I can actually affect this way.

  14. “Evil Sunrise” – Creepy Red Devil Horns Rise Over Iran
    [IMG]

Creepy red devil horns over the Persian Gulf were photographed during a solar eclipse.

Amateur photographer Elias Chasiotis captured the incredible photos of the giant red horns rising on December 26 whilst he was in Qatar.

Just days after this omen, the US killed top Iran commander and terrorist Qassam Soleimani.

Another photo shows the red crescent rising:

“Astronomy has attracted me since I was a kid,” Chasiotis told Bored Panda. “I’ve been an amateur astrophotographer for the last 15 years as well. I took these photos in the coastal city of Al Wakrah, Qatar, on the morning of December 26, 2019, when an annular eclipse was in progress.”

“I hoped that optical effects like inferior mirage would be visible and I was lucky enough to capture them,” he said. “The weather conditions didn’t look good in the beginning as there was a lot of haze and low clouds in the southeast.”

“I was worried that nothing would come out of the eclipse. However, when the sun finally began to rise, it looked like two separate pieces, some sort of red horns piercing the sea. It soon took the form of a crescent, with the so-called ‘Etruscan vase’ inferior mirage effect visible. Due to its shape, the phenomenon was nicknamed the ‘evil sunrise.’”
