There's another famous Oliver in Irish history... Saint Oliver Plunkett. He was hung, drawn and quartered by the English in the 1600's. His head however was recovered. And hidden in a convent till after Catholicism was 'legal' here. It is incorrupt and sits to this very day on display, for all to see - in Drogheda cathedral. Its only a matter of time till a gay couple land to a Catholic church somewhere and request to be married. When that happens, and they go the courts.... I shudder at the implications.
If the Church took and takes a firm stand there would be a lot less to be concerned about. It is a bit like standing up to a bully, if you give a firm, 'No', from the get go you are on safer ground. Sadly with most Bishops or Cardinals these days, they have as much back bone as a Jelly Fish.
