Simone Weill the french philospher (the agnostics saint as she is sometimes called) writes a beautiful thing about grace. She writes that before God can send us grace he has to carve a void , an empty space for it in our hearts. I guess this empty place comes about by the knife of a conviction of our sins. Paradoxically this means that the bigger the sin and the bigger the conviction of sin the bigger the void left for sin to fill. So as Jesus said : Matthew 11:12 From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been subjected to violence, and violent people have been raiding it. These, 'Violent people' are those who have had the depst void carved in their hearts by a full apreciation of their sins. The deeper the void, the greater the room for grace.
